My Petition To Make Detailing More Mainstream

Cars Parked at Night

A little about me: I really, really don’t like dirty cars. So much so that when I step outside and see a dusty Mercedes, a little piece of me wants to bust out a bucket and wash it for whoever is neglecting it. I cannot blame the car owner, but rather the fact that the importance of detailing is not understood by the masses. Hopefully this simple petition can help.

Problem

Everywhere you look there’s a dirty car. It doesn’t matter if you’re in San Francisco, New York, or Chicago… the ratio of clean cars to dirty ones is extremely underwhelming. Dull finishes are as far as the eye can see. As far as I’m concerned, it’s a shame.

Solution

People need to start taking pride in their cars. As one of the most expensive purchases any adult will make, it only makes sense that one would take care of it properly and spend the time necessary to keep it in the best condition possible.

Some car manufacturers have done a great job of suggesting proper car care (washing, detailing, waxing, and the like), but this is still very rare. Most glovebox manuals say nothing about properly maintaining the appearance of the car—if you ask me, it should have its own dedicated section. Even so, this probably wouldn’t make too much of a difference. The ideal solution is taking it to the streets.

By this I mean go out and clean your car. Give it a real good shine (or not if it’s matte) and go show off. In my opinion the best way to spread the word about detailing is through envy. Everybody loves a great looking car, and the only way to achieve it for an extended period of time is proper car care. And so, I have a small request for your help…

Share this post and go clean your car!

When you’re done, upload a picture and spread the word: detailing is back.
