Continuing in the direction of the future of matte finishes, Mini Cooper has joined the select few who offer a matte finish out of the factory. Their release of the 2014 Cooper S Countryman series comes with a unique trim package that’s sure to stand out. They’re continuing in the line of manufacturer released matte finishes along with BMW Frozen Paint, Mercedes Designo Mango Finish, Cadillac Silver Frost Finish, and Hyundai Veloster Matte Finish.
Since every manufacturer is on the roll of creating their own name for “matte”, mini released this name: The Frozen Black Metallic. Not sure what that means as the image above suggests the partial shine of a glossy finish, while still having characteristics of matte. It’s intriguing to say the least.
The fact the mini is owned by BMW makes this edition of their latest mini cooper far from unexpected. The surprising nature of this edition is finding out that they are only making 60 of these Black Knight edition Coopers. They will be given out in a first come, first serve basis. This is also uncharacteristic of mini as they tend to stick to a special edition for a complete model year. They may just want to dip their toes in the water and sense the demand for these new editions. Either way, it’s excited to see another manufacturer jumping on the matte finish train.
