How To Care For A Matte Black Challenger Hood on Demon, Hellcat, and T/A

A Dodge Challenger matte black hood is a sight to behold, but many are stumped on how to care for one. As you may know, matte paint is incompatible with most detailing products, since most detailing products are designed to enhance the shine of glossy paint. So what can you do? You go to the Doctor—Dr. Beasley’s.

Our line of matte paint care products are perfect for a matte black Challenger hood, and Dodge has taken note. That’s why we’re in their TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) as a recommendation for matte paint care. If you’ve got a matte black Dodge Challenger hood you want to keep in factory condition, read on for a detailed care guide with specific product recommendations.

1. Get The Right Products

Before you take home your Challenger, get the Dr. Beasley’s Matte Paint Prescription. That gives you everything you need to maintain and protect the hood’s matte finish. Inside the Matte Paint Prescription you’ll find:

  1. Matte Body Wash
  2. Matte Paint Cleanser
  3. Matte Paint Coating
  4. Matte Final Finish
  5. Wash bucket w/ Grit Guard (Optional)
  6. Foam Applicator 2-Pack (Optional)
  7. 9″x9″ Wash Pads x2 (Optional)
  8. Microfiber Towel 2-Pack (Optional)

2. Protect Immediately

As soon as the Challenger is in your possession, you’ll want to get the matte paint protected with Dr. Beasley’s Matte Paint Coating ASAP. This will help avoid permanent stains or etch marks, plus it’ll make the car a lot easier to clean. Here are the steps to take:

  1. Wash the whole vehicle with Dr. Beasley’s Matte Body Wash. For optimal results, use the two-bucket method.
  2. Rinse the vehicle. Because the coating has a wet application, you do not need to dry unless you intend to use distilled water for optimal bonding.
  3. Apply 7-10 drops of Matte Paint Coating to an applicator. Using circular motions, apply Matte Paint Coating to the entire Challenger matte black hood, being sure to get full coverage. Wipe away immediately with a microfiber towel.
  4. (OPTIONAL: Apply Matte Paint Coating to the glossy paint and matte vinyl on the Challenger. It will maintain the glossy paint as-is without adding additional shine)
  5. Allow at least one hour of undisturbed cure time before using vehicle.
  6. Avoid washing the vehicle or getting it wet for the first week after coating.

3. Practice Regular Maintenance

Once your coating is cured, you’ll want to keep the vehicle as clean as possible to keep the protection in good condition. Here are some quick maintenance recommendations:

  • Wash every 2 weeks with Matte Body Wash.
  • Remove contaminants ASAP so they’re easy to clean. Use Matte Final Finish for light contaminants, and Matte Paint Cleanser for tough messes.
  • Boost with AdvanceCoat: Matte every 3-4 months to reinvigorate water repellency and reinforce protection.
  • Re-apply Matte Paint Coating once a year or as needed. Durability will vary based on environmental conditions.

Matte Paint Coating Pro

Looking for a long-lasting, pro-style coating for your Challenger matte black hood? You may want to consider Dr. Beasley’s Matte Paint Coating Pro Kit. This coating touts 5 years of durability (with a 5-Year Warranty on installations performed by an Authorized Detailer) and has natural self-healing properties. Just be sure to pick up the care products I mentioned above—you’ll need those for maintenance with this coating, too.

Matte Wheel Care

Got matte or satin wheels? Dr. Beasley’s has care solutions for those too, which can be purchased as standalone bottles or as part of the Matte Wheel Cleaning Kit.

Dr. Beasley’s also offers a Matte Tire Conditioner, formulated without silicones so it won’t stain.
