How Often Should I Wash a Ceramic Coated Car?

A ceramic coating is not going to make it so you never have to clean your car. It just makes it easier to do so. In order to keep your coating lasting a long time, you need to wash it regularly — but just how often?

  • Never wash more than necessary. Over-washing can cause micro-scratch patterns called “swirl marks”.
  • Never use an automatic wash. Even if your car needs a wash ASAP, it’s best to wait until you can hand wash it. Automatic washes use abrasive bristles that scratch paint.

Gentle & pH Balanced

Cleans coated paint safely without harsh chemistry that can degrade protection.

“Pure” & Free Rinsing

Rinses cleanly without leaving residue that can clog the coating.

Wax & Filler Free

Avoids waxes, silicones and gloss enhancers that sit on top of the coating.

What Should I Use to Wash a Coated Car?

Using the wrong soaps, mitts, towels and techniques on a ceramic coated car can weaken the protection quickly. Here’s what to use to properly clean the coating without sacrificing durability.

Wash

Washing a ceramic coated car with foam

Start with a proper maintenance wash to remove dirt, traffic film and residue that may be blocking the coating’s performance.

Test

Testing water behavior on a ceramic coated car

After washing, rinse the surface and inspect how water behaves. Look for strong, uniform beading or sheeting across the paint.

Boost

Applying a ceramic coating maintenance spray

If water behavior remains weak after washing, apply a ceramic maintenance spray to restore slickness and reinforce protection.

Non-Beading Coatings Can Still Protect
Don’t assume your ceramic coating is gone just because the beading is. Water beading is just one aspect of the coating’s protection and can be restored easily!

Pro TIP: Wash before You Boost

If the coating is clogged with traffic film, hard water minerals or soap residue, adding more protection on top may not restore water behavior until the contamination is removed first.

What Should I Use to “Boost” My Ceramic Coating?

Want your coating to bead like new again? You don’t need to apply a new one. Using a “booster” spray can refresh your protection quickly. But what is it actually doing, and which one should you use? Let me explain.
