Dr. Beasley's NSP 45 and Nano-Resin MX on a 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo

NSP 45 + Nano-Resin MX on Original Paint 1987 Porsche 930 Turbo

This case study was adapted from notes and photos sent from customer Patrick Ucci. It has been lightly edited for clarity.

THE CAR

1987 Porsche 930 Turbo (Original Venetian Blue Paint)

The car, a 1987 Porsche 930, had never been re-painted in its 30+ year life span and had sustained minor swirl over the decades. If this Luftgekühlt (a.k.a. Porsche with air-cooled engine) was going to be hanging with the Vintage Vices crowd, it was going to need a facelift, but with an eye for originality. “The objective was to maintain the original paint, even with minor road chips,” owner Patrick Ucci explained.

Considering the age of the paint and the amount of clear coat that can wear away in that time, care needed to be taken to ensure as much original clear was preserved as possible while still removing those swirls — enter Dr. Beasley’s Nano Surface Primer 45.

Patrick got in touch with Dr. Beasley’s Director of Success Chris Racana for recommendations on what products to use. “I pointed him towards NSP 45 with the idea that a lightly abrasive primer would take care of the swirls, leave plenty of clear coat behind and make the coating applied after more durable,” Chris said.

“As for the coating itself, Nano-Resin MX made the most sense. Patrick needed something durable but at the same time accessible, which MX has in spades.”

Chris also recommended protection for the infamous Porsche “whale tail” plastic trim with Dr. Beasley’s Plastic Trim Coating. “That was important for me because I know just how easily that color can fade in the sun,” Patrick mentioned.

THE PROCESS

LIGHT CORRECTION WITH NSP 45

NANO-RESIN MX APPLICATION

Plastic trim coating application

The prep for the coating began with a wash and clay bar mechanical decon, part and parcel of any paintwork correction no matter how light. “The processes involved included clay barring, buffing with NSP 45 in order to prep the paint with proper anchor points for Nano-Resin MX and take the light scratches and like issues away,” Patrick explained. “Finally I applied Plastic Trim Coating to all of the exterior rubber of the car in order to accomplish the same effect.”

These steps were not taken lightly, however. “Every single step of the process was met with some intimidation considering the significance and potential risk of making a mistake and damaging the paint,” Patrick admitted. “So with each step I reminded myself that I really can’t mess any of these steps up if I follow the instructions on the website as well as take my time.”

Patrick was nothing but impressed by how it all turned out. “By the end of the day I was looking at a finished job worthy of any high end collectible showroom,” Patrick told us. “I will continue to recommend Dr Beasleys products to everyone I run into that is looking for a high performing product.”

Patrick told us even before he was done the 930 was getting noticed around the block. “As a matter of fact, I actually had a neighbor stop by to admire the car. He mentioned he has his Mercedes 550CL waxed every two weeks until I told him about the NEW way to protect his car. One new customer and I wasn’t even half way done!
