EGO Power+ Blower with ApexAire Stubby Nozzle

The Best EGO Blower Attachments for Drying Cars (2024)

Last Updated September 6, 2024

Professional and DIY car detailers alike LOVE using electric blowers to dry cars. With a blower, you don’t have to worry about inflicting swirl marks in the car’s paint with drying towels — you can dry the whole vehicle without touching the car once.

The Problem with the EGO Stock Nozzle

One of the most popular blowers among detailers is the EGO Power+ Blower line. Detailers have had great success drying cars with these machines, but they’ve found one flaw:

The long stock nozzle makes drying harder.

The length of the nozzle decreases air pressure, making it so the air doesn’t blow as fast. This reduces drying speed.

The long stock nozzle is also hard to handle — it’s so long you have to stand pretty far back from the car to not scratch the paint.

The Solution? Short Drying Nozzle Attachments!

Through trial and error, detailers have found that a shorter nozzle attachment pushes off water more effectively than the stock nozzle.

In the time since, several third party manufacturers have released versions of the “stubby” short nozzle attachment, with even EGO now offering their own first party short nozzle attachment.

But which one reigns supreme in terms of air flow, build quality and durability? Which short, “stubby” nozzle attachment for EGO blowers is worth your money? Read on to see our full breakdown and comparison of every attachment currently on the market.

ApexAire AEGS-01 Blower Tip System – $60 (SOLD OUT)

The ApexAire AEGS-01 Blower Tip System was designed by auto detailing enthusiast and entrepreneur David Beaver.

The ApexAire AEGS-01 shortens the original blower tube by over eight inches, reducing its weight and size to increase air speeds.

It also comes equipped with a soft rubberized tip, making it harder to leave any accidental marks or scratches. These rubberized tips usually need to be bought separately, so it’s good to see that ApexAire includes it with the attachment.

PROS:

  • Increases air speed
  • Enhances air flow control
  • Rubber tip designed for protection against painted surfaces
  • Interchangeable tip system for future attachments
  • Injection molded parts
  • Fits most EGO Blower Models
  • Recommended by Obsessed Garage

CONS:

  • A little expensive at $75.99 w/ rubber tip, $60 w/o
  • Some reports of inconsistent fit
  • Only shortens by 8 inches
  • Some negative reviews
  • Currently out of stock
Stubby Nozzle Co nozzle for EGO blowers

STUBBY® Car Drying Nozzle for EGO Leaf Blowers – $30-40

The Stubby Nozzle Co. started as an Etsy shop by detailing enthusiast Derek McCurry and has since grown into a full online store selling short nozzle attachments for blowers by EGO, DeWalt, Milwaukee and more.

These drying nozzles are quite short at a full 11” less than the stock EGO tube. They’re also tapered at the end, which increases air speed and pressure to expedite drying time.

Being 3D printed from PETG plastic, they look a little rougher than other drying nozzle attachments, but it also gives them a certain DIY charm. That being said, some reviews say the nozzle plastic is brittle and can shatter easily if it knocks into something.

The default drying nozzle from Stubby Nozzle Co. does NOT come with a rubber tip, but for an additional $10 you can add a “Blowerband” brand rubber tip in a variety of colors.

PROS

  • More affordable at $29.99 ($39.99 with Blowerband™)
  • Shortens standard tube length by 11”
  • Increases air speed
  • Improves air flow control
  • Comes with optional Blowerband (additional $10) to protect your paint against any accidental scratches
  • Majority five-star reviews
  • Different models of the Stubby Nozzle are available to satisfy customers with older and newer models of the EGO Blower, along with models for all other big blower brands (Milwaukee, DeWALT, SKIL, Kobalt, and Makita)
  • Easy to attach and very secure
  • Reliable, responsive seller
  • Made in the U.S

CONS

  • Some difficulty removing nozzle from blower
  • 3D printed plastic looks rough and unfinished
  • Some reviews say plastic isn’t durable and can shatter
  • Available from Stubby Nozzle Co.
Short drying nozzle from EGO

This “stubby” nozzle has the advantage of being made by the blower manufacturer themselves, EGO. This means they’re able to design the tube to perfectly fit their blowers.

Another advantage? Because EGO is a major brand owned by the gigantic Chervon group, they can devote more resources towards research and development to ensure the best build quality possible at scale.

Beyond the perfect design and clean, OEM look, this attachment includes the same features as many of the other models listed here, including the rubber tip.

PROS:

  • Most affordable at $24.99
  • Shortens standard tube length by 11”
  • Increases air speed
  • Improves air flow control
  • Rubber tip included
  • Fits perfectly
  • Durable, injection-molded plastic
  • Manufactured by EGO

CONS:

None

Hopefully this list helped you decide which short nozzle attachment is right for you. All of these attachments function basically the same, so at the end of the day, the differences mostly come down to build quality and price.

No matter which one you choose, however, I think we can all agree blowers are one of the best tools for drying cars. Pushing water off the car using air instead of abrasive towels reduces scratches exponentially because you’re no longer touching the paint! That kind of care is what keeps you from needing to polish out swirls or re-apply a worn ceramic coating.

That being said, sometimes a blower isn’t an option for drying a car and you need to use towels. For situations like those, check out our guide on washing black cars — it’s filled with tips on how to avoid scratches while hand drying.

  1. Derek McCurry (Owner, Stubby Nozzle Co.) says:

Excellent article Victor! One thing I would like to point out is that the EGO Tapered Blower Nozzle (part# AN6000R) you mention in the article can NOT be attached directly to the EGO leaf blowers. It can only be attached to the end of the long, stock tube that comes with the EGO blowers so it’s not actually a true stubby nozzle solution. Hope that helps!

    • Victor Espeland says:

Wow, thank you for that correction! In all honesty, it was the only option we didn’t directly test ourselves, so that’s on us. We’ll update the article accordingly!

  2. Justin says:

Great balanced review! Our Blowerband nozzle guards fit all four nozzles; Apex Aire, Stubby Nozzle Co, Stock tube, and Stock Tapered Tip/Fan attachments.

  3. Chris Wilson says:

Just curious if it has a filter on the blower where it pulls in air? If not you could be blowing sand and dust particles at vehicle around 150 mph.

    • Victor Espeland says:

EGO blowers do indeed have filters! We wouldn’t be using them in our shop if they didn’t.

  4. Martin Desrochers says:

You can use Ego Blower without any attachement it’s pretty light, inexpensive, you just have to take care to hit the paint. But with a 4″ 1/2 lenght it’s easy.

No one have think about it ?
