Hyundai Announces Matte Options for 2024 Ioniq 6

Hyundai announced on June 28th the new 2024 Ioniq 6, its latest electric vehicle (EV) in its “Ioniq” division of EVs. The Ioniq 6 should be officially revealed later this year and available for purchase in Spring of 2023.

Also announced were matte paint options for the Ioniq 6, which means Hyundai will likely continue their relationship with matte finish detailing product manufacturer Dr. Beasley’s (AKA the owners of Behind the Detail) who currently provide their Matte Paint Prescription kit to Hyundai for inclusion with the Ioniq 5, among other matte option models.

So what do we know about the Ioniq 6? Not a whole lot at this point, but we’ve got a few insights.

The Backstory of the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6

Over two years ago, Hyundai revealed an electric concept car, calling it the Prophecy. Designed to be smooth and aerodynamic to accentuate the company’s vision for future electric vehicles. Nonetheless, this prototype turned many heads as the Prophecy’s design looked undeniably beautiful.

Hyundai is credited with making prototype cars become a reality in production; this was the case with Hyundai’s Ioniq 5, a beautiful, angular electric SUV released in late 2021 which looked almost identical to its prototype. Now, two years later we finally got our first look at the Prophecy in its production stage – the Ioniq 6.

When it was announced on June 28, 2022, the Ioniq 6 definitely stirred the pot in the car community as it could be a real competitor for Tesla’s Model 3, especially as Hyundai is known for producing more affordable vehicles.

What We Know About the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6

With many car enthusiasts excited for more information about Hyundai’s new ‘electrified streamliner’, what exactly should we expect to see from the Ioniq 6?

Judging from the photos Hyundai has released, the Ioniq 6 features a smooth, aerodynamic, futuristic design while also including elements that pay homage to their company’s history and inspiration from other manufacturers.

As for the specs of the Ioniq 6, not much is known since much of its information is still under wraps, but here’s what we know so far:

Trim Levels

There will be two different trim levels for the Ioniq 6. Each of these trims will make heavy use of sustainable materials on the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The floor boards are topped off with recycled fishing nets pulled from the ocean. Eco-processed leather or recycled fabric are used for the seat trims and vegetable-oil-derived paint is used on the doors.

Specs

No information has been publicly released about the Ioniq 6’s power, but we can speculate it will be similar to the Ioniq 5’s specs. So we’re looking at 225-HP with 258 lb-ft of torque powered by a 58-kWh battery or optional 77.4-kWh battery.

It’s also rumored that there will be an AWD model that will be powered by the more powerful 77.4-kWh battery while also being equipped with an additional 99-HP motor at the front axle, making a total of 320-HP while pushing 446 lb-ft torque while sporting a 5.5 second 0-60 time.

Another rumor — Hyundai is also working on an “N-Version” of the Ioniq 5 – a sports edition to the vehicle. This pushes us to believe that the Ioniq 6 would have something similar in the years to come.

Price & Availability

The Ioniq 6 should be officially revealed later this year and available for purchase in Spring of 2023. We speculate that the price of the Ioniq 6 would be around $40,000 for the base model to be in competition with Tesla’s Model 3.

As for the paint color options, we mentioned earlier that Hyundai will be offering matte paint options for the Ioniq 6. So what do we know about these options, and will Dr. Beasley’s continue to provide their products to Hyundai for the new matte colors?

Matte Paint Options for the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6

The Ioniq 6 will come with 12 different paint options, most of which are undisclosed to the public at the moment, but one thing is for certain: there will be matte paint options.

So far, we know that the Ioniq 6 will feature a matte green and matte gold color, both of which use bamboo charcoal pigments to go along with Hyundai’s goal of creating sustainable vehicles.

As Hyundai will be featuring factory matte paint options for the Ioniq 6, we at Dr. Beasley’s expect to continue our partnership with Hyundai in supplying each matte Ioniq 6 with a Matte Paint Prescription Kit.

A little backstory on our relationship with Hyundai: For just over 10 years now, Dr. Beasley’s has provided Matte Paint Protection Kits for a number of Hyundai’s matte vehicles, including the Veloster, the 2019 Kona “Iron Man” Special Edition, the 2022 Genesis G70/GV80, and of course the Ioniq 5.

Providing the relationship continues, each Ioniq 6 sold in the United States (and possibly other regions) will come with a Dr. Beasley’s Matte Paint Prescription kit, which includes: 12 oz Matte Body Wash, 4 oz Matte Paint Coating, 12 oz Matte Paint Cleanser, and 12 oz Matte Final Finish.

These products when used together help to protect and maintain the appearance of the factory matte finish, which is uniquely susceptible to damage due to the unique nature of the clear coat. As we’ve explained in past blogs, matte clear coat has a special texture that creates its diffused sheen. Products designed for gloss fill in this texture, resulting in an unsightly change in appearance.

Dr. Beasley’s Hyundai VIP Program

One other thing we want to mention — those who own a Hyundai vehicle with factory matte paint are invited to register for the Dr. Beasley’s Hyundai VIP Program, which rewards members with 15% off all Dr. Beasley’s bottled products. Qualified owners can find more information and register as a Hyundai VIP here.
