How Often Should I Wash a Coated Car?

A ceramic coating makes your car easier to clean, but it does not eliminate the need to wash. Use this guide to set a baseline schedule and recognize when contamination means you should wash sooner.

Determining Coated-Car Wash Frequency

Wash often enough to prevent buildup — every 2 weeks, usually. ‘

A coated daily driver kept outside may need washing every 1–2 weeks, while a garaged vehicle driven occasionally may only need attention as contamination appears. A coating helps loose contamination release more easily, but rinsing or foaming alone will not always remove the film left by regular driving.

Rinsing is Not Enough

Ceramic coating protection does not mean you can skip regular hand washing. While lighter contamination may come off with a simple rinse/foam/rinse process, heavier contamination should always involve contact with a wash mitt to ensure loose contamintion is fully removed.

Driven Regularly +
Parked Outside

Every 1–2 Weeks

Frequent exposure to traffic film, pollen, rain and airborne contamination can clog the coating and mask its performance.

Driven Regularly +
Usually Garaged

Every 2–4 Weeks

Garage storage limits exposure, but regular driving still leaves traffic film that must be washed away.

Driven Occasionally +
Garaged

As Needed

Inspect after driving and wash when you see dirt, pollen, traffic film or other contamination.

Seasonal or Show Vehicle

Before or After Use, As Needed

Inspect around each outing and before storage. Do not wash simply because a calendar says it is time.
