The original Metal Coat formula, developed by Dr. Beasley’s founder, president and chemist Jim Lafeber, was one of our most popular products. DIYers and professionals alike loved how it protected exposed metal like exhaust tips and chrome wheels.

When the Cybertruck first hit the streets, Jim jumped to test Metal Coat on Tesla’s unique stainless steel material. What Jim found surprised him. Metal Coat worked great on small surfaces like chrome grills, but it didn’t perform as well applied to a giant stainless steel car body.

Use Metal Coat Pro wherever metal needs defending: stainless Cybertruck body panels, aluminum trim, chrome wheels, exhaust tips, marine hardware and even household appliances like refrigerators and sinks. If it’s exposed metal, it’s a perfect candidate for Pro-level protection.

  1. 1. START CLEAN

    Work clean and in the shade. Ensure metal surface is clean and decontaminated before application.

  2. 2. METAL COAT PRO PREP

    Mist Metal Coat Pro Prep onto a clean, folded microfiber towel and wipe a manageable section to ensure a surgically clean surface. Follow with a second dry towel to leave the section clean and dry.

  3. 3. PRIME APPLICATOR

    Use the pipette to apply Metal Coat Pro onto the included microfiber applicator pad.

  4. 4. APPLY METAL COAT PRO

    Working section by section, spread in overlapping vertical lines down the panel, then repeat with overlapping horizontal lines (crosshatch) to ensure full, even coverage.

  5. 5. LEVEL

    After 30–45 seconds, wipe the treated section with a clean microfiber towel to level the coating, then continue wiping to remove any excess.

  6. 6. INSPECT FOR HIGH SPOTS

    Using ambient light or a handheld inspection light, check the section from multiple angles. Immediately remove any remaining residue before it dries.

  7. 7. REPEAT

    Move to the next section and repeat steps 3–6 until all desired stainless steel surfaces are coated. Slightly overlap into previously coated areas to ensure uniform coverage.
For best results, work on cool stainless in the shade and divide large panels into manageable sections.
Do not apply Metal Coat Pro in direct sunlight or on hot surfaces.
Do not allow this product to freeze during storage.
If applied in temperatures below 65–70°F, allow a longer flash before leveling; in warmer, more arid conditions, expect a shorter flash.
Inspect the surface from multiple angles in natural light to identify and remove high spots immediately.
Keep the surface completely dry for at least 1 hour after application; after 1 hour, light rain or mist is acceptable.
Full cure occurs in 24–48 hours. Once cured, stainless will clean easier and resist spotting.
Sun or IR heat after application can accelerate bonding and cure time.
Avoid washing with soap for 7 days after application; afterward, follow a pH-balanced stainless maintenance regimen with soft microfiber towels.
Keep bottle closed when not in use and recap the pipette immediately to prevent solvent loss.
Maintain protection by applying Bead Hero every 3–4 months or as needed to restore hydrophobicity and shine.

How is Metal Coat Pro different from the original Metal Coat?

The original Metal Coat excels on smaller metal parts, but Metal Coat Pro was formulated for large stainless and aluminum body panels. It offers stronger bonding to these substrates, improved chemical resistance and enhanced hydrophobics.

What surfaces can I use Metal Coat Pro on?

Use on exposed metal surfaces including stainless steel (e.g., vehicle body panels), aluminum, polished metal trim, motorcycle and marine brightwork, and even home appliances like stainless refrigerators—anywhere there’s raw, uncoated metal that needs protection.

Does it change the appearance of brushed stainless (e.g. Cybertruck)?

Applied correctly, it maintains the factory grain and texture while leaving the surface cleaner and brighter. Panels retain their brushed look without altering grain direction.

Will it stop fingerprints?

No coating can prevent fingerprints entirely, but Metal Coat Pro makes them much easier to wipe away since it seals the metal’s texture. A damp microfiber will remove prints faster post-coating.

How long does protection last?

When applied and maintained properly, Metal Coat Pro provides durable, long-term protection measured in years, not months.

How should I prep stainless before application?

Work clean and in the shade. Wash thoroughly (wheels/tires first, then top-down). To remove rust tint, water spots, and traffic film on stainless, you may gently wash with a mitt charged with a mild cleanser, then re-wash with pH-balanced soap to fully flush and neutralize. Dry completely. On brushed stainless, ultra-fine polishing can be used to remove staining while preserving grain.

Do I need Metal Coat Pro Prep?

Yes. After washing/decontamination/polishing, wipe each section with Metal Coat Pro Prep using a microfiber to ensure a surgically clean, residue-free surface for maximum bonding; follow with a dry towel.

What is the basic application process?

Prime the microfiber applicator with Metal Coat Pro using the pipette. Apply in overlapping vertical lines, then horizontal lines (crosshatch) on a manageable section. After 30–45 seconds, level with a clean microfiber and remove any excess. Inspect for high spots and address immediately before moving on, slightly overlapping into previously coated areas.

How soon can I expose the vehicle to water, and when is it fully cured?

Keep the surface dry immediately after application. The coating continues to bond and harden over 24–48 hours. Once cured, water will bead strongly and cleaning becomes easier. Avoid washing with soap during the initial cure window.

What maintenance does Metal Coat Pro require?

Routine pH-balanced washes and soft microfiber drying maintain appearance. The hydrophobic surface sheds water and road film, reducing spotting. A compatible topper can be used periodically if you desire even more slickness and water behavior.

Can I apply it myself, or do I need a professional?

DIYers can achieve excellent results by working in small sections and following a Prep → Apply → Level → Inspect workflow. Professionals may be preferred for heavily stained or corrected metal.

Does it help with corrosion and oxidation on daily-driven stainless?

Yes. By sealing the surface and resisting chemicals, the coating slows oxidation and corrosion, reduces rust tinting, and makes future cleaning easier.

Is it suitable for non-automotive metal surfaces?

Absolutely. Apply to metal appliances and fixtures (e.g., stainless refrigerators, sinks) to add hydrophobics and make fingerprints and water spots easier to remove.
