10 Mind-Blowing Cars We Saw At Barrett-Jackson

Anyone who knows anything about car collecting knows Barrett-Jackson is the premiere car auction. We at Dr. Beasley’s were lucky enough to be invited as vendors to their 2019 Palm Beach auction through Autogeek‘s 14th Annual Detail Fest, housed within the auction grounds. While manning our booth, we took time to check out some of the 700+ collector cars up for auction. Here’s 10 of our favorites:

1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396

From Barrett-Jackson: “This black-on-black 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 has undergone a complete rotisserie restoration and is documented by a Protect-O-Plate and its original owner’s manual. The classic 396/350hp big-block engine is detailed in correct orange paint and dressed in chrome valve covers, 4-barrel carburetor and cast-iron exhaust with chrome tips. The M20 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission is topped with a Hurst shifter and paired with a 12-bolt posi-traction rear end. This SS is factory equipped with power steering, power front disc brakes and Firestone raised-white-letter tires mounted on correct 5-spoke SS wheels with chrome rings and SS center caps. The interior is appointed in black, including front bucket seats and door panels that complement the black dash, steering wheel and flooring. The instrument panel features the traditional tachometer and appropriate gauges alongside AstroVentilation air conditioning and the original AM/FM/8-track stereo. This Chevelle is equipped with a non-OEM Trim Tag.”

1986 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1200 Pick-up

From Barrett-Jackson: “This 1986 Mercedes-Benz Unimog U1200 4×4 is powered by a 5.7-liter turbo diesel intercooled inline-6 engine backed by a heavy-duty transmission that offers eight forward gears, eight reverse, and two in crawler and working. The combination offers a total of 24 gears. The truck cruises with a top speed of over 75 mph with the fast-ratio portal axles. For trips off the pavement, the truck has dual differential locks and selectable 4-wheel drive from the comfort of the cab. The truck is also equipped with PTO shafts in the front and rear for additional implement connections. It has 53,057 original miles (the title reads mileage exempt) and 3,702 hours are shown on the gauge affixed to the engine. The engine has been upgraded with a larger intake, intercooler, tuned fuel pump and dual alternators. During its restoration, the cab was completely stripped down, insulated and upholstered from bottom to top. The seats were redone with saddle leather and bear a Texas cattle brand. It features a new stereo console and speakers with added with Bluetooth connectivity, and an air conditioning system was also installed. The exterior of the truck has front and rear light bars, Class V trailer receiver, 7-pin connection, LED lighting on the steps, onboard air compressor, train horns and 46” Michelin military tires with a spare included. Original items included are factory build sheets, complete service manual and tool kit.”

1981 Ford LTD Custom Station Wagon (From National Lampoon’s Vacation)

From Barrett-Jackson: “This Ford Station Wagon re-creation is based on the car in the movie “National Lampoon’s Vacation,” starring Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo. It’s powered by a 5.0-liter 8-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission.”

1957 Porsche 356 Speedster re-creation

From Barrett-Jackson: “This 1957 Porsche 356 Speedster re-creation roadster is powered by a 1200cc engine with dual Weber carburetors and performance dual exhaust backed by a Type-1 4-speed manual transmission. The engine has been completely rebuilt with performance upgrades. It’s finished in PPG Royal Blue with a matching canvas soft-top and boot, and features a tonneau cover and side curtains, Speedster windshield, dual Euro fog lights, dual side mirrors, and period-correct badging and chrome wheels. The interior features Speedster-style sport bucket seats finished in Oxblood leather, correct-style Banjo steering wheel and gauge package, and new woven red carpeting. This Speedster re-creation sports completely rebuilt mechanicals and 4-wheel disc brakes.”

1960 Volkswagen Beetle Custom Sedan

From Barrett-Jackson: “This custom Beetle is the result of a no-expense-spared build utilizing hundreds of man-hours and numerous hand-fabricated parts. This VW is powered by a 2007cc 4-cylinder engine and manual transmission with dual Dellorto 36 carburetors and a custom header pipe made not to be seen, but still carries a deep racer sound. The engine resides in a highly detailed compartment. Many hours went into the custom hand-formed steelwork before the two-tone glass and flat black paint was applied. The headlights and taillights were relocated lower in the fenders to give the car a lower look, and the custom driving light was carved into the front bumper. When you combine the detail of the front storage compartment with the matching interior, it is obvious it was built as a labor of love and style.”

1994 Toyota Supra Turbo Liftback

From Barrett-Jackson: “This is a two-owner 1994 true, original MK.IV twin-turbo Supra. It’s powered by a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine backed by a 4-speed automatic transmission and has 45,127 original miles (the title reads mileage exempt). Finished in Alpine Silver over black leather, this is one of 97 produced in this color from 1994. This Supra has a clean CARFAX history, is rust-free, accident-free and retains its original matching VIN tags on all panels. This well-maintained, non-smoker car is unmolested and in good condition.”

From Barrett-Jackson: “This great-driving 1979 Fiat 2000 Spider by Pininfarina is powered by a twin-cam 1995cc OHC engine backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. It underwent a full body-on restoration with one repaint and a total mechanical restoration, all done in 2017.”

From Barrett-Jackson: “This rotisserie-restored, HEMI Orange 1969 Plymouth convertible wears added GTX badging and accessories and features a new factory-style white interior. It’s been upgraded with a date-code-correct 440ci V8 engine with Ram Air induction backed by an automatic transmission. It comes equipped with power steering, power brakes, power top, dual exhaust, bucket seats, console and a stock radio.”

1975 Ford Bronco

From Barrett-Jackson: “A full body restoration from the ground up on a one-owner 1975 Ford Bronco, this 4×4 classic comes with less than 85,000 original miles (mileage not indicated on title). This Bronco became worn and deteriorated as it sat under a tree for almost two decades. During its restoration it was returned it to its original coloring, and new life was brought into the old hardware and rims. It comes with an all-new interior, newly covered front seats and the original rear seat. It is powered by a 302ci 8-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission.”

1963 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Pickup

From Barrett-Jackson: “This 1963 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 is powered by a 155ci 6-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. Everything has been restored back to factory form, with a few small but much-needed upgrades like power steering, boosted front disc brakes, a 2″ spring lift and anti-inversion shackles. Almost all of the parts are Toyota genuine parts, with a few exceptions. Nearly all of the nuts, bolts, washers, screws, mounts and clips have been tanked and re-zinc-plated, with the exception of some of the exterior bolts. The interior features Coral Salmon-colored seats, and the seams are in good condition. The rear black paneling of the cab has a Land Cruiser-stamped bezel and the correct rear taillights and mounts. It’s riding on BFGoodrich all-terrain tires, and the Toyota original steel has been blasted and powder-coated with the proper gray color, with a new set of wheel center caps. The rear has the proper Toyota decals, and all emblems and stickers are correct. The entire undercarriage has been lined with Mint-Green-tinted rock liner, along with the interior of the bed.”
