Dr. Beasley's Guide to Ceramic Coating Inspection

How To Perform A Nanocoating Annual Inspection

Last Updated May 29, 2026

As we’ve said in past articles, nanocoatings (also called ceramic coatings) are not a one-and-done kind of protection. While they’re much easier to maintain than waxes and sealants, you do need to actively care for them on an on-going basis. Part of that means conducting a thorough coating annual inspection, in order to get an idea of what condition the coating is in one year later and whether or not repairs or re-applications are needed.

If you had your coating installed by a Dr. Beasley’s Authorized Detailer, getting your annual inspection is as easy as making a phone call and driving over to the shop. But if you’re more the DIY type and put some Nano-Resin on yourself, you’ll probably be doing this inspection all by yourself. So what should you be looking for? We’ll cover it all in the guide below, based on the actual inspection procedures carried out by our Authorized Detailers.

1. Pre-Wash Inspection

Inspecting paint for scratches

Walk around on the vehicle, closely inspecting the coated surfaces. Look for signs of micro-marring or deeper scratches. You may need a strong LED light to be able to see. Take note of blemished areas for future reference.

2. Maintenance Wash

Wash the vehicle with Dr. Beasley’s Ceramic Body Wash. For guidelines on how to properly hand wash a vehicle, check out our past articles on the subject.

3. Post-Wash Inspection

Check for signs of coating viability. Is the coating still repelling water? Also revisit the blemished areas noted earlier. How severe is the blemishing? These observations will help you determine how to proceed.

4. Repair, Re-apply or Rejuvenate

Time to make a judgement call. If the coating has only mild micro-marring you may be able to correct the finish with a light polish without buffing off the coating. If scratches are heavy, however, you will have to remove the entire coating with a buffer and re-apply.

Spraying Dr. Beasley's AdvanceCoat: Gloss

If the coating appears to be in good shape and doesn’t require any repairs, all you need to do is apply an AdvanceCoat booster spray (matte or gloss, depending on the finish) and call it a day.

Annual inspections are really the centerpiece when it comes to nanocoating maintenance. By taking a step back and taking a long, hard look at your coating’s condition, you’ll gain the insight needed to determine what it needs to continue performing at the highest levels.
